Complying
with Joint Commission
Health
care
facilities
accredited by the Joint
Commission must
have a
management
program to
"reduce
the potential
for
organizational-acquired
illness."
The
standard holds
health care
facilities
responsible
for
"managing
pathogenic
biological
agents in
cooling
towers,
domestic hot/cold
water systems, and
other
aerosolizing
water
systems."
The American
Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), in technical reports on managing
waterborne
pathogens per the Joint Commision standard, has recommended that
health care
facilities
conduct an assessment of
potential
sources of Legionella
and
develop a
management
plan for
maintenance
and operation
of water
systems.
HC Info provides assessments and management plans that comply with
Joint Commission (see consulting services).
