1. TEN CASES, TWO DEATHS, AT PHILADELPHIA NURSING HOME
*******************************************************************
Nine residents and one employee of a suburban Philadelphia nursing home
have been diagnosed with Legionnaires' disease since June 10th. Two have
died, a 75-year-old man and a 102-year-old woman.
The
Montgomery County Health Department told NBC that 22 people from the
nursing home were sick with upper respiratory illnesses, including five
staff members.
The
nursing home opened just last October.
All
the residents confirmed with Legionnaires' had lived in the "D
Wing" of the center. The 70 residents on that wing were moved to
other rooms while authorities conducted an investigation and disinfected
systems.
The
residents were moved back into their rooms on June 18th and 19th, after
post-disinfection environmental tests were found to be negative.

3. LOCATION REVIEWS FOR LEGIONELLA SEMINAR
*******************************************************************
We have not scheduled the next course because we are evaluating
locations and dates. We anticipate that the next course will be in fall
2002 or early in 2003. If you think the interest in Legionnaires'
prevention is high enough in your city to get 20 or more registrants (40
or more outside the United States and Canada) at $495 each, then please
let us know. Better yet, see if you can put a group together yourself.
We can provide the two-day comprehensive course for a mixed group
(health officials, hospital personnel, plumbing engineers, water
treatment professionals, industrial hygienists, etc.), or tailor a
lower-cost one-day course for a specific audience. You can also get
private training for your organization. For more information, visit
